Asenath

girl-eyes-makeup-sexy-60883.jpeg

Asenath was the beautiful wife given to Joseph when he became governor. His name was changed by Pharoah to Zapanath Paneah.  They had two children , Ephram and Manassah.

Little is know about her than that she was of a pagan religion. Many speculate that Joseph failed in his lineage by taking her for that very reason, but I have to believe that marrying a man of his character would have brought her to know God, and that it was love story. I recommend the movie with Paul Mercurio. Rebecca Jones

Potiphar’s Wife

The wife of Potiphar was fascinated by  the handsome servant Joseph. She watched him work. Potiphar had given him charge of the house and more access to it, and more opportunity to come in contact with her. Joseph was, of course, a man faithful to his God. It was his sister, Dinah, who was raped by Shechem, and her did not return her advances. Yet, she tore his coat as he ran. Good advice for both men and women who are tempted. Run! He was falsely accused and imprisoned, but eventually, interpreted dreams and was released and made the Pharoah’s governor, after correctly interpreting, his dreams. Joseph also was able to save his own brothers, and father from famine. And reveal his identity, it is a picture of forgiveness, as he was gracious to them saying what they meant for evil, God used for good. Little else is known of Potiphar’s wife, other than that she was unfaithful. Her name appears in another text as Zelicah. Rebecca Jones pexels

Tamar

Tamar lost two husbands, and wanted to marry Judah’s third son when he was olden enough. When that day came, he broke his promise. Tamar desperately wanted a child and when Judah’s wife had died and went to seek out a prostitute, she disguised herself and trapped him in order to bear a child. When he found out she had played a harlot, he wanted her punished until he discovered the truth. While both were wrong, God knew that Pharez would continue the lineage and showed mercy and grace. Dinah

Dinah was the daughter of Jacob and Leah. She was raped by Shechem, although it said he loved her. Her brothers, who probably should have been watching her more closely were outraged and burned the city named for him and killed all the men, after insisting they be circumcised. Hamor the king had asked Jacob to let his son marry Dinah. A lot of people think she was to blame for wanting to see the world but that did not means she wanted to raped.

Her story is one of caution though, Shechem was probably flattering her with his attention but ended up forcing her into seduction. It is not true that she have been just a stay at home type, though she needed a protector. From personal study, I found research indicated Job may have lived in the same time as Joseph, they have friends with the same name, there is speculation that she could have become Job’s wife, I have not found any concrete proof. Leah

brooke-cagle-249829

Leah is the sister given in marriage to Jacob in deception. Laban’s excuse, that the older sister should be married first. So Jacob worked another seven years for Rachel, perhaps he realized his own deception toward Isaac, had come back on him. Though not as loved or as beautiful as Rachel, she had four sons, with names that recognized God in her life, and two others by a handmaiden,  and a daughter.

She is described in Genesis 29 as being tender eyed or doe eyed, perhaps not a affliction but just not the physical beauty of her sister. Leah was apparently a good mother, she and her sister had maidservants, Bilhah and Zilpah. Zilpah had two sons. She was buried in a cave at Machpelah.

Rachel, of course, held onto idols and died having her second son, Benjamin. The other was Joseph. Rebecca Jones / cropped photo Brooke Cagle, Unsplash thanks.

Rachel

Rachel was a beautiful woman and Jacob loved her, he worked seven years for her and it was no time at all because her loved her. But then Laban deceived him on the wedding day and gave him the older sister Leah instead. Many people don’t realize that is why the veil is lifted in our traditional ceremonies.

Whether or not Leah did it willingly or to please Laban, we don’t know. Thus, Jacob had to work another seven years for Rachel, and needless to say her relationship with her sister changed. Her name means ewe. Rebecca Jones

Bashemath

Also Esau’s wife, he probably married she and Judith, both Hittites against his parent wishes or out of spite. His father was not please with his other Canaanite wives. She is referred to as the daughter of Elon the Hittite and Bashemath was probably a name of praise given in marriage. Genesis 26:24, 36:10 Rebecca Jones photo Maria Darri / Unsplash, thank you.

Judith

Judith, her name means one who is praised, was a Hittite woman married to Esau. This caused his parents a lot of grief. It was because Isaac was violating the law of not marrying an idolator, Esau forfeited his birthright. Genesis 26:34 Rebecca Jones

Keturah

Keturah

Keturah was the third woman associated with Abraham, the third wife if you include Hagar. Abraham had remarried in his old age after the death of Sarah, Isaac has also married Rebekah. So Abraham is older and lonely or possibly still wants more children. Keturah is a young women and has six children who will be the progenitors of Palestine. She is a more devoted and care giving wife, and even called a concubine rather that the kind of wife Sarah was, she would have had more independence. Deborah, the Nurse

34e17df7a0a8755c3ac3dabf08c012ad

This is Rebekah’ nurse Deborah. She was with her from childhood. She even traveled with her after she went away to marry Isaac. No doubt, she would have been present at the birth of Jacob and Esau and had a hand in raising these two boys that were most likely a handful. She was as beloved any family member and was mourned after living a long life. Little else is said of her. Deborah, means bee, so she was most likely a busy woman. Rebecca Jones
